what do you do when...?

What do you do when you get an invitation to an aboriginal healing event from a white person who is employed for a political party?

Politely decline or grudgingly accept?

So? What did you do?

Rhetorical question, since it wouldn't be financially possible to attend the event right now.

I'd say no, probably. It's not because I don't believe in the event (although what would I be able to offer?) it's just that I'm just a little overly-cynical about any politician these days. This is because, due to my irresponsibility, I'm on the hook for giant VISA bill, but when big banks or private corporations (read: Deh Cho Bridge Corporation) piss away boatloads of public money with blatant irresponsibility, they are let off the hook with massive bailouts or appropriations. I'm being held to account, but they aren't, when really, they should be more accountable. They're all crooks until they prove otherwise.

So I guess I answered the question without answering the question.

Quite the rant. Yikes...

Yeah, there's quite a lot of anger and frustration over the bridge. Remember when it was supposed to cost $60 million?

It was set up as a public-private partnership, not a government project. As I understand it (poorly), that meant that the information that would normally have been available about a public project was not available. That's a big reason people are angry.

But that really has nothing to do with aboriginal healing. I think it's an unfair comparison.
